Week 40: Humbling Yourself Before the Lord

HOY! Que tal? Aqui estamos pues. Loved your letters and sounds like you guys had a great week. Well just to answer some of your questions. This week is General conference and we are able to watch all of it. It’s a wonderful opportunity to invite people to church because it only happens two times every year. It is one of the rare opportunities that you have to invite people to listen to the prophet of God. It definitely is a powerful statement.

This week was a very great week. As always, the weeks here are flying by, and I wish it would slow down. We had a wonderful week and were able to be the Lord servants. We learned a very interesting lesson this past week. During one of our studies we were study in Mosiah and were reading about the people of Limhi. The persecutions that they were facing were extremely difficult, because of the bondage that they were in to the Lamanites. The people decided to rise up and fight against them, and every time lost. Every time they fought they lost more and more people. Then they became humble and the Lord freed them. To me this story is a life lesson. Many times in our lives we face trials that may cause us to want to rise up and fight against them, but the only way to freedom, the only way to success, is humbling yourself before the Lord and allowing Him to do the rest.  That lesson changed the way we were working, rather than trying to do everything, we just tried our best, knowing that the Lord would work His miracles. And He did. We had many miracles this past week. Sundays are the most important days as missionaries. It is so important that your investigators go to church. So we try everything. Try to visit them and invite them, in the morning call them and stop by to bring them to church. One of the biggest miracles came yesterday, when as we were going to church with some investigators when we arrived a car showed up, and to our surprise was the wife and daughter of a family that we had invited to church the day before. What faith is that! This family has been so amazing. We found them as we were knocking on doors. They invited us back and we have continued teaching them. They have read all of the pamphlets and many chapters in the Book of Mormon, all in the matter of 2 weeks or so. The biggest miracle came when we were in church, the Bishop’s wife when walking out saw this lady and recognized her and ran over and began talking with her. To our surprise they were in college together, from then on, this wonderful member was by the side of this lady and her daughter. I find that to be one of the most special times, to see the members mingling with investigators and helping them.

 Yesterday as we were going around visiting we kept seeing a man, that was working on the road. A job that consists of taking broken up cement and pounding it with a hammer until it is smaller and then filling in the holes in the dirt roads. Every time we saw him, he smiled and said hi. Then we saw him again and he said Elders. We spun around and began talking to him, and found out that he is a member but stopped going to church about 9 years ago. He told us how he would like to go again. That experience touched me and made me think about how many people we might have missed because we weren’t diligent to the promptings of the Spirit.

 

Elder Measles...Amazing story he has, the wife next to him is a member who has been to the temple. He has visited with 8 different sets of missionaries. The people thought he was a member. He had a dream about a week ago where someone told him to put forth an effort and now is the time. So he decided to do it and was baptized.

This a family that the other elders in our ward baptized. The mom (next to me) was a pastor in a different church and now wants the missionaries to teach her members of her church.

Sorry I didn’t write too much, there is so much I want to say but its hard to try to say it. Hope everything is good with your guys and loved the pictures. Thanks for the workouts it has made a world of difference. Here in Honduras it is getting hot!!! And now that the lady that was washing our clothes isn't, Im getting pretty good at washing clothes by hand. Don’t smell too good, but they look pretty white. hahaha just joking. Normally the Gringos don’t smell too good cuz they don’t know how to wash by hand. hahaha just joking. Well love you guys. Thanks for the support and the prayers.
