Week 38: Don't Worry...I Don't Have Lice Now!!!

Hey family!

How is everyone? This week was filled with some difficult times but also with miracles. More than anything, the thing that stood out to me this week is the power of a good attitude. I think it is a normal human tendency to always look at the negative things around us. Having a positive attitude is a key attribute to  being a person of God. Something that I always love to read in the Book of Mormon is when Nephi breaks his bow. His brothers, his family, and even his dad (the prophet) began to complain and murmur. But Nephi did not complain or think negatively but rather got to work. The hope, faith and diligence he had really is a great example of what it means to be a man of God, and what to do when there are hard times and when things don’t go as planned, get to work. But not only work just to work, but to always have that purpose and focus on what you want to accomplish.

This past week we witnessed many miracles. One of the most amazing miracles that we witnessed this week was yesterday when we were helping Olvin and his family. Olvin told us that he has gotten divorced and that only another week or two and he will be free to get married to his wife. But one of the biggest miracles of all is watching the change in his wife. It seems that with all investigators that there is a time when problems come. We find them; start teaching them, they start progressing, but always during that process, Satan tries to stop it. Maybe their friends began saying stuff to them, or they hear something weird, or have a bad experience. That happened with her. Their friends and family have been telling them a bunch of stuff, it hasn´t affected Olvin (rather made him stronger) but it has affected his wife. But Olvin has been reading to his wife every day from the Book of Mormon, the pamphlets, and even the teachings of Joseph Fielding Smith. The love and patience he has for his wife is something that I learn from each day we visit them. And thanks to his diligence and prayers, her testimony has been growing. What an amazing miracle from God, how He accelerated a 3 to 4 month divorce process in a matter of a couple of weeks, and has changed the heart of his wife.

 

Stocking up on water...it is getting hot!  Do you think they need to defrost their little freezer?

The man I told you about last week, whose dad died, he has made dramatic changes not only in his life but in the life of his family. When we showed up he told us how happy he felt, and after his family came out and asked us what has happened to him. Before he was always really angry, the family got in fights, there was a lot of contention, but now everything is peaceful. He told us how he feels like he has let go of all of the bad feelings that he had from his dad’s death. The family also expressed the interest wanting also to experience that same change. During the lesson, my comp and me realized something together, that we were led to that family by their own dad. We felt a very strong spirit there as we talked with them, knowing that the dad is there with them every step of the way, helping them change. The son also told us that he has changed jobs to have more time for the family and has a couple of months without smoking. Yet again, our Heavenly Father has performed one of the most greatest miracles, a change of heart. We had some many miracles, but also a lot of hardships too. But it is always after the hardships that comes the miracles. This past Saturday, we were walking around contacting, because all of our appointments had fallen through and it seemed that everyone we contacted would hide themselves in their houses, then when we had left they would run out quickly and lock up all the gates and fences. Even though my comp and me found it pretty funny we were pretty sad to see how hard the people were. Then we met a man who when we first saw him we had an impression to talk to him. We began talking to him and his mom who expressed interest in talking to us. I find that those kind of finding experiences are some of the most spiritual experiences. It’s amazing how God can help them feel something while we are there, enough to invite us back to visit with them.

We have a couple other families that are progressing quite rapidly and we have been very impressed by their progress. The first family asked us when we were going to come to take them to church, and the other told us that when he feels it to be true, his whole family is going to be baptized! The best part with these 2 families is that they are....married!!! Not marrying is such a huge problem here. Anyways, there are so many more experiences I want to tell you but I don’t have enough time.

Also something really cool, found an inactive lady a couple of weeks ago, her son is not a member. I literally believe that this guy could be my twin. He turns 19 two days after I turn 19. Works in a Specialized bike shop, here in San Pedro! Ya he loves to mountain bike! Me and another Elder (Elder Measles) have loved talking with him. And the coolest part is that he is progressing really quickly in the gospel! Pretty sure we were friends before this life, no joke! After my mission, maybe he will come and stay with us so he can go mountain biking, skiing and do all that fun stuff! But I am going to try to get a couple of biking jerseys from him along with helping him to get baptized! Maybe I will try to get three, one for mom, dad, and for me! Wouldn’t that be cute to have all three of us in the same Honduras jerseys! haha. Let me know what you think or if you want one.

Proof...that his shoes are ok.  We were going to send him some for his bday, but he says they are fine. Just a little dirty...  Now what do we get him.  Any ideas?
